1- The surgeon should normally try to preserve the spleen to maintain the following functions:
a- Immune function.
b- Filter function.
c- Haemopoiesis function.
d- Normal wound healing. /
e- Appoptosis. I
2- Regarding congenital abnormality of the spleen:
a- Splenunculi are single or multiple hamartomas.
b- Non paracytic splenic cysts are true cysts.
c- Splenic agenesis is present in 10 % of children with congenital heart disease.
d- Polysplenia are referred to splenunculi.
e- Most of splenunculi are located in the greater omentum.
3- Regarding the spleen:
a- There is no difference between spleenomegaly and hypersplenism.
b- Splenic abscess may occur in association with typhoid fever.
c- Splenic rupture should be considered in any case with blunt abdominal trauma.
d- In tuberculosis of spleen it is not presenting with splenomegaly.
e- In idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura it is due to congenital anomaly of decreased platelets production.
